Coronation Blues

Coronation Blues

They stood for hours all wet and weary
Day and night, bright or bleary
Royalists who delight in this corny coronation
That makes a mockery of any democratic nation
Insisting that goodness flows from tradition
And that republican thought is mere sedition
Delighted to praise those who inherit
Regardless of their achievements, insights or merit

How unblessèd are the true believers
And all those political bad-dream weavers
Who talk of morality yet fail to convince
Those who have seen the truth long since
That whilst all humanity may not be quite equal
A coronation is only a sequel
To never-ending attempts to promote disparity
Between those who have plenty and those living with rarity
